Pop Corn Hop Porn has made a comeback and we brewed an Oatmeal Stout with Benchwarmers Brewing Co – Weekly Brewery Update

This week we released an old favourite Pop Corn Hop Porn, packaged some more A Passion for Gingers, shipped off some palettes to our importer in Norway and brewed a collaboration with our friends from Benchwarmers Brewing Co. A large shipment of beer from us and some other great Gothenburg Breweries (Stigbergets Bryggeri, Poppels BryggeriRådanäs Bryggeri & Electric Nurse) has also arrived at Craft Hamilton in New Zealand, so we’re hoping for some new fans on the other side of the world.

Pop Corn Hop Porn IPA is back in our assortment

Pop Corn Hop Porn, or just Pop Corn as we call it in the brewery, is number 62 in our collection. This latest batch is batch three. This beer always seem to get some good ratings, so we decided to bring it back again. It has also followed all the design changes from the start. The first label had the old bridge on it. Then it changed to the updated brand profile, and finally it has gone into a can.

It is over hopped and hopped again, for your hop head, hop porn pleasure.

In Sweden particularly, it is hard to get hold of all of our beers, as you are only allowed to buy alcohol, in sealed bottles & cans, from the state owned monopoly, Systembolaget. One of the questions we get all the time when we release new beers, is “when will it be available at Systembolaget”. The answer most often is never.

But not this time. There’s good news for those living in Sweden, and that is that Pop Corn has been submitted to the local assortment for release in the first quarter of next year. It will join Mocha Latte Stout, which will be available on the 1st of December this year, but more on that further down.

Pop Corn Hop Porn IPA is #062 and in each batch it has had a change of label, as we have developed our brand over time. It has also moved from a bottle into a can.

In the past while we have also made a few changes to our label designs, specifically for the IPAs and Pale Ales, so that they look different from each other, and are a little bit more representative of what they are. Pale Ales have always had blue tones, while our IPAs always had greener tones.

The new Pop Corn Hop Porn label now has some yellows and pink, for the Pop Corn and the Hop Porn, while Passion Fruit of the Loins is green with lots of yellow for the Passion Fruit. Eternal Dankness is dark green and purple, to represent dank, and the colours are inspired by a certain plant species we can’t talk about here 😉

The latest design on the IPA cans.

Mocha Latte Stout available at Systembolaget in Sweden on the 1st of December

Mocha Latte Stout joins Eternal Darkness in our core range, and will also be available to order in Sweden from Systembolaget as of the 1st of December 2016.

One of our absolute favourite beers are Mocha Latte Stout. It has always did well when we’ve had it at festivals. So the decision to bring it back and include it in our core range was easy. We also decided to add it to our assortment at Systembolaget in Sweden, so that it can be ordered to the local shops from anywhere in the country.

It joins our other stout Eternal Darkness, and will be available to order as of the 1st of December.

Mocha Latte Stout, a combination of everything we love in Stouts, Coffee and Chocolate! This one is not Vegan, but its delicious, and creamy!

Why would you not want beer in a can?

In the last week we released our 12th can. The collection is looking very colourful indeed. As the Brand Manager here at Beerbliotek, as well as the designer, it’s been a lot of fun creating all the labels. A little bit of a dream come true being able to build a brand with such talented brewers as we have. The outside of the cans are always inspired by what is inside.

In the third quarter of 2016 we had 12 different cans in our can collection.

Craft Beer in cans are a relatively new phenomenon here in Sweden. Cans was always the packaging of choice for cheap lager you buy 24 at a time in a tray. It seems the whole feeling of cheap is a very high bridge for some people to cross. Most of us understand that cans are a better holder for beer than glass bottles, if you’d like to keep the beer fresher. There’s no air in the can, and no light shines through that can affect the beer. But besides that, the environmental impact of cans when you just consider transport, is half that of bottles.

The space you save on transport is one thing, but the space you save in storage space, and in your fridge is also half. Or if you’re thinking the way I do, you can get in double as many cans as bottles. So why would you not choose cans?

The stack-ability of cans, means you can get more into your fridge, compared to bottles.

Collaboration with Benchwarmers Brewing Co.

Collaborations are an integral part of our brewing philosophy. This time around our good friends from Benchwarmers Brewing Company spent the day in our brewery, where the beer of choice is a high ABV Oat Stout. Both of our head brewers have dogs, which hang out at the brewery on most days. Adam has Cookie, and Richard has Nelson. Magnus from Benchwarmers also has a dog, named Kilo.

At our brewery we always have a challenge coming up with names. Some are easier than others. This one was easy-ish. We added 20 kilograms of Oat cookies in this stout so we decided to call it Kilos of Cookies, after Adam and Magnus’s dogs.

That’s it for this week. Remember that Adam will be at We Brought Beer in London at the beginning of December, and there’s some tickets left.

Next week we’ll be canning our collaboration with Cervisiam. It’s been tasting really great in the tank so weäve got some high hopes for it.

Keep well, until next week.

Cheers
